Large northwest swell to bring-warning level surf to islands

A large northwest swell will bring dangerously large surf to the Hawaiian islands starting Wednesday. 
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) –

A large northwest swell will bring dangerously large surf to the Hawaiian islands starting Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai and Molokai, and for north-facing shores of Oahu and Maui. The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

Surf is expected to rise to 20 to 25 feet, forecasters said.

A High Surf Advisory has also been issued for west-facing shores of Oahu and north-facing shores of the Big Island. This will go into effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday. Surf along north-facing shores will rise to 10 to 15 feet.

Expect strong breaking waves that may be dangerous for swimmers.
